It comes after the Football Association of Wales outlined that they would be undergoing an investigation into what they described as “suspicious betting activity” surrounding the Port Talbot versus Rhyl fixture. The Welsh Premier League match saw a Rhyl side that had been enduring a 16 game winless streak, end this with a comprehensive 5-0 victory against the Victoria Road outfit. It must be stressed that the FAW does not believe that the betting activity concerns match fixing.

The Club’s statement in full reads:

“Port Talbot Town have been made aware of allegations of match fixing following reported suspicious betting activity relating to the Blues’ fixture at Rhyl last weekend”.

“The club have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to club officials and/or players participating in this kind of activity. We will be conducting a full and thorough investigation into the matter and will be co-operating with all relevant parties to ensure a correct resolution is achieved”.

It went on to add that a, “further club statement will be issued when more information is available on this matter”.
